The Perfect Filet Mignon
So, you want to learn how to cook a Filet Mignon? Well we have you covered. I always say that my fillet is better than most top restaurants in my area, which is very large here in Metro Detroit. Filet Mignon is one of the best cuts of meats, and you do not have to spend a lot of money or empty your wallet at a over price restaurant to enjoy this delicious dish.
If you are single, this is a hit on date night. Or if you have a family, then your kids and spouse will love this dish. The best thing is that it is super simple to make and most likely you do not need to go shopping for extra spices or ingredients unless you choose to. Just salt and pepper will go a long way with this dish. Just watch the video below for a quick-cooking class.
To start I suggest that you use a Cast Iron Skillet. If you do not have a Cast Iron Skillet then use a pan that is oven friendly. Get your cast Iron skillet extremely hot, add butter and oil to the skillet. The skillet is ready when the oil and butter is just about smoking, this is to get a good sear on the steak. Having a good sear will lock in the juices and will give you a good result.
While your skillet is warming up hot pat your Filet Mignon dry then add salt and pepper to your Filet right before placing it in the skillet. Be careful the Pan is hot! To develop a good sear, leave the fillet to cook for 3 minutes on each side and do not move it at all ! Base the Fillet with the butter, herbs, and oil mixture while the meat is cooking. After 3-minutes flip the filet to develop a sear on the other side and continue to base your filet with the butter, herbs, and oil mixture.
Then place the steak in the oven to prevent overcooking. After the steak is placed in the oven for 2 minutes check the temperature of the Filet. Once the steak reaches 130 degrees the steak will be medium rare. At 135 the steak will be Medium. At 145 the steak is now medium-well.
